About
Richard Banker was born and raised in the small city of Aberdeen, South Dakota. After graduating from Colorado State University, he spent 10 years in Hollywood playing small roles on TV and film. While pursuing acting, he began writing country songs and playing to rock crowds on the Sunset Strip.
In September of 2020, Richard set out for Texas with $300, a cheap guitar and his songs. He landed on a lifelong friend’s couch/floor in Weatherford, Texas. After playing a small tour in North Texas, he decided to check out Austin. His first stop was the Broken Spoke. Miss Terri White was kind enough to let him sing a few songs and he never left.
He continued to cut his teeth at Austin staples the Broken Spoke, Poodies, and Donn’s Depot with his new-found buddy, mentor, and soon to be producer, Chris Gage. Both were born and raised in South Dakota and having a similar taste in music made for an easy connection. Chris and Richard worked on developing the songs and started recording his debut record when Chris became ill.
After Chris’ passing in the summer of 2025, Richard felt lost. His producer, mentor, and most of all, great friend was no longer there for the journey. He decided to take a trip to Nashville to try out his songs in the writer’s rounds. While catching some music at Robert’s Western World, he was serendipitously introduced to two-time Grammy-winning bass player, multi-instrumentalist, and producer, Ted Russel Kamp. Together along with a killer band of all-star Texas musicians, they just finished recording Richard’s debut album at the Zone studio in Dripping Springs, Texas. The record is set to release in the fall of 2026.
